Couplings for Measurement of Torque
On a test bench, the torque transducer needs to be connected to the driver and the driven equipment accurately through a torsionally stiff coupling system that can operate at high speeds, and accommodate for the radial, angular and axial shaft misalignments, without inducing stress to the sensitive torque meter.
The coupling needs to be designed with a stiffness that would allow synchronous torque transmission, and also be suitable when machinery is subject to reversals. In addition a torque limiting function may be integrated on one hub to disconnect the drive in case of an overload due to fatigue or malfunction

The requirements of modern test benches are demanding and considering the high cost of downtimes, it is very important to use a customized coupling system, designed specifically to match the distance between shaft ends, flange fitted connections, robust torque transmission, capability to accommodate diverse load cycles, customized torsional stiffness and weight limitations.
Mezurdisc couplings are installed on several test benches in conjunction with precision torque flanges like Lebow, Honeywell, HBM, Kistler, Himmelstein and others sandwiched in between to offer an integral torque measurement system that is both, accurate and short.
